A bold (for me) experiment:  The track isn't built around loops and samples, but my actual guitar playing.  I actually wrote this song in my college years, and it has always been a particular favorite.  There's no way to reproduce the particular riffs and ambiance with my usual "instrumentation", so I plugged in a microphone, tuned up the old acoustic, and did some finger-stretching exercises.  There are actually four guitar tracks (to help cover mistakes), panned across the stereo field to give a fuller effect.  Bass, percussion and strings are Sonic Foundry loops, and the little bassoon bit near the end is a midi done with Prosound and converted to .wav with Audio Compositor.

Guitar and vocal tracks were recorded directly into Acid Pro and effected with Cool Edit Pro.  Mixdown and conversion to .wma accomplished with Sound Forge XP 4.5.
